Claims routing and shop assignment
Sending the claim to the right body shop, repair network, or independent adjuster. In US auto, this means a Direct Repair Program (DRP) assignment; in property, a contractor or restoration firm.
The three rungs
Adjusters call a list of approved shops by phone. Each carrier maintains its own DRP, typically as a spreadsheet of preferred providers with negotiated labor rates.
Cloud SaaS and classical ML; tools founded roughly 1995 – 2015.
Built around deep learning or LLMs from day one; tools founded mostly post-2015.
CCC ONE and Verisk XactAnalysis absorbed the routing layer through the 2000s by sitting on top of the estimating data and offering shop assignment as a workflow. The AI-native rung for this specific action is thin — the question of which shop fits a given claim is partially a relationship and compliance problem, not only a model problem, and no dominant AI-native vendor has consolidated it yet.
