What it does
Cape Analytics ships AI-native property intelligence: high-resolution aerial imagery, computer vision, and derived attributes — roof condition, pool presence, tree overhang, wildfire fuel — delivered on a subscription basis to carriers, reinsurers, and real-estate underwriters. Founded 2014 in Palo Alto; 50+ subscription customers reported across insurance and real estate.
Named customers and strategic alignment. Hippo Insurance, Amica, State Auto, The Hartford, CSAA, Cincinnati Insurance, and State Farm Ventures appear as named customers or carrier-investors across the Series B and Series C funding press releases. The blended investor-customer relationship is common in the property-intelligence category and tends to produce long-lived, production-scale deployments.
Funding and ownership. $75M raised across Series A, B, and C. Acquired by Moody's in January 2025. Cape now feeds Moody's broader risk-analytics platform, which pairs with the rater's existing RMS catastrophe-modelling franchise (RMS was acquired by Moody's in 2021). The combined footprint gives Moody's vertical coverage from catastrophe probability down to per-property condition assessment.
Where it sits in old → new → AI. The legacy workflow for pre-bind property assessment was a physical inspection by a contracted surveyor, or no inspection at all for simple risks. Cape Analytics is AI-native, built on imagery and CV from day one, and sits alongside Nearmap and Betterview in the property-pre-inspection layer — the three now share a post-acquisition landscape in which Cape belongs to Moody's and Nearmap/Betterview belong to Thoma Bravo.
